Critical text by Chiara Canali
Opening: Saturday 1 October at 5pm
Time: October 1-16, 2022
Scalvini Museum – Villa Cusani Tittoni Traversi, Desio
On Saturday 1 October 2022, the hall of the Scalvini Museum in Desio are hosting the exhibition Reflection of the soul. The inner and outer through image for this seventeenth edition of the Milano Photofestival.
Exhibition Reflection of the soul. The inner and outer through image brings together photographers from Europe, America and China. As Chiara Canali, author of the critical text in the catalog states, "they are artists with different backgrounds, training and geographical origins who bear witness to the present time through as many visions, some more interior and psychic, others aimed at investigating life, society and external environment in which we live. The first group of photographers relates their work to the body through a reflection that intends to recover the original meaning of the term "aesthetics" as a science of perception. Some studies have revealed that the perception of bodies in photography exclusively activates the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, an area highly involved in many complex cognitive tasks. This photography imposes a new way of seeing, new relationships between the subject who looks, between the device and the object of vision and representation. The second group of photographers, on the other hand, claims that photography has the ability to be in harmony with one's time and space, to know how to depict it well and therefore to be capable of giving rise to effective and synesthetic experiences of reality."
The seventeenth edition of Milano Photofestival, the annual art photography review, invites us to reflect on the importance of the photographic lens to observe the world, and ourselves, with different eyes. A month and a half of photography exhibition between big names and emerging photographers, with over 150 exhibitions located in the Metropolitan City of Milan, in Lombardy and, for the first time, in other Italian cities. Involved 115 exhibition venues including art galleries, museums, libraries, historic buildings and photography shops.
The most lavish and important Milanese exhibition dedicated to art photography is organized and promoted by AIF - Associazione Italiana Foto Digital Imaging in collaboration with Impresa Cultura Confcommercio Milano. Many exhibitions, but also meetings, presentations, portfolio readings and workshops to spread the passion for photographic images, with a festival that strengthens its presence in the area and diversifies its offer, extending cultural collaborations.
